biography
All Joshua and Gina Handler wanted was a big family and after years of failed attempts at pregnancies and bad luck with adoption on September 16, 1978 their hopes were finally answered. At a quarter passed 5 in the morning at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, New York a little boy was born to 15 year old Catherine Tompkins and her boyfriend Frank Malone. Although hesitant at first since anytime the Handler’s had come close to receiving a child in the past the parents would change their minds, but this time that was not the issue. Catherine knew she was too young and had too much ahead of her to be able to handle a child in her life at that time so she happily handed the boy over to the happy couple. And that little boy was named Ryan Joshua Handler. Until Ryan was about six years old he lived in the Astoria Heights district in Queens, New York. However, his parents then decided to move out onto the Island to Amityville where Ryan grew up until his parents’ death when he was sixteen. Before their death Ryan lived a decent life, he had a lot of friends in the neighborhood; he did fairly decent in school and played little league until he was fourteen and found that he enjoyed music much more compared to sports. His father wasn’t all too happy about this, wanting his son to play sports like he did but at the same time he wasn’t about to shut down his son’s dream about possibly one day having a music career or whatever Ryan was aiming for.

However after the death of his parents in a fatal car accident Ryan’s life changed drastically. With having no family in New York Ryan had to move to Settle, Washington to live with his cousin Nick. Although at first Ryan had a hard tome settling into his new surroundings. He spent the first two months mostly in his room writing songs in his guitar until he finally decided that he needed to get out there and live life. Despite being a loner his first couple of months there he was able to making friends pretty quickly after that, mostly due to the help of his younger cousin Nick. Eventually Ryan formed a band with some friends and put most of his time into it. Even though his uncle and aunt were happy he was finally making himself comfortable and doing what he wanted they continually reminded him that grades should come first over everything else. Of course at first Ryan completely ignored them until during his senior year he started to flunk geometry, not because he didn’t understand it but because he didn’t really care. His uncle threatened to take away his phone, his computer and even his band which Ryan laughed off at first but eventually figured out it probably be better not to piss them off and got his grades back up. Throughout his two years at high school in Settle Ryan had a handful of girl friends of course none of them were really all that serious.

Once high school was over Ryan had a decision to make, go to college or just focus on his band. He knew in the long run it probably be better to go to college just for a little while and for two years that was exactly what he did. But instead of returning for a third year on his 20th birthday him and his band set out for tour as an opening act for a friends band. The tour lasted for about four months and once it was over the guys decided it be best to record their EP and once they were done with that they hit the road again. Shows, drinking, girls, sleeping, eating, shows, drinking, girls, sleeping, eating, etc. Day in and day out it was the same thing and really Ryan wouldn’t have changed it for one minute. He was able to be out there and do something he loved in front of people who seemed to love it just as much. And that was Ryan’s life until April 2001 when the band decided to take a break and focus on real life. After settling back into life in Settle Ryan got himself an apartment and a job at Jerry’s Records as a Barista and eventually even went back to school.

Upon graduating college Ryan decided to move back to New York to reconnection with his birth parents and his siblings who he had sought out during his last two years of school. With school being over you would think Ryan would know what he wanted to do but honestly that was the last thing he knew. Not long after being there he had gotten himself an assistant job at a tattoo parlor with the help of a friend and was playing music every so often in some bars. He had acquired an apartment in the east village and well so far so good. He dated girls here and there, went through roommates, this and that, basically just lived life. It was in his early 30's, when Amanda Jo Green waltzed into his tattoo parlor. He was covering up a tattoo she had for her ex-husband, and Ryan couldn't help but be interested. When she left, he knew he wanted to see her again, and after picking up a pen he wrote his number on his hand. Soon enough the two were dating and Ryan was pretty sure he was head over heels for this girl. She didn't even live in the city, and he was getting in his car more often than he ever had before to go and visit her.

Ryan surprised everyone when he went on to propose to Mandi, and eventually made her his wife on May 5, 2010. It was a couple months later that the decision to move to Boston came into play. While Ryan was hesitant at first, he wasn't going to not go with her. After squaring away any business he had in New York, he followed Mandi so they could start their new life. Now working on opening his own tattoo studio and a baby on the way, things have been pretty great in Ryan's life. Now he just has to wait and see what happens next.
